Yesterday
you were looking at your finances and it did not look to bad. The downturn has not helped you any, but you
seem to be holding your own. Your wife
and you have 401Ks which are all doing okay, and you and your wife both have
retirement plans. Also when retired
Social Security and Medicare will kick in when 65 gets here. Also the CD’s are doing OK not great, but OK.
All that you
have is in paper or the digital world.
You say that 90% of everybody’s net worth is in paper or digital so how
can everyone go down the tube. Have you
heard about Lemmings? Every year they
follow the leader and end up drowning in the sea. Keep on following the leader and see where it
will get you. One day you will make
those calls trying to find out where your net worth went. Get ready for a lot of slow dancing and sad
singing.
Now you no
longer have any cash. You drive quickly
to the ATM get in line and read the message on the screen OUT OF SERVICE. Man how do we get some food to eat? Burn rubber down to the local grocery store
to find out that they will not take plastic and you have only $52.87 on you.
You my boy are in a world of do-do. The sweet home that you have has: city
water, city gas, and on the local electric grid. When the workers walk out of the public utilities
it will not be good to try reading your newspaper on the stool. There will be no light and after a few days
the air freshener will not take care of the smell.
Do you have
anything that is worth anything in your house? I would bet not if you must
leave it. You probably do not even have a bike to get out of town or a backpack to carry anything.
