UNION STRIKE A CURRENT EVENT

We are listening to a discussion between two gentlemen about world unions today.  Jimmy is 27 years old white and has worked as a steelworker in New Jersey for 6 years.  John is 29 years old Latino has worked in a refinery for 7 years as a laborer.
Question 1: What do you see as the union’s place in today’s world ?
John:  The union is an outdated organization in today’s society. They had a place in yesteryear’s labor market, but today all they do is collect union dues and price our labors onto foreign shores.
Jimmy: The unions have made this country great.  Without unions companies would be exploiting our workers on hours and also pay. Non-Union = Scab Labor
Question 2: Michigan has raised the number of right-to-work states to 24 out of 50 with recent state legislation.  The legislation is good or bad for our and the world economy?
Jimmy: This was a move by big business to take rights away from the workers.  We need more membership in unions to raise wages and benefits for the middle class.
John:  You need to look what the unions have done for our states and municipal workers.  Debt is rising faster than we can even pay the interest.  If unions are so needed and necessary, why does the Federal Government forbid them?
Question 3: Unions have reported that companies are driving our manufacturing off shore, is that the case?
John: Most companies are traded on the stock market.  Most 401Ks and pension programs expect a return on their investment.  Companies will produce their goods wherever they can make the most profit so they can pay dividends to the clients.
Jimmy: We need more laws to protect the American worker.  We will continue to lose workers overseas unless we require all government to buy American made.                                            Where Are You Going To Go???
